This presentation will discuss the results of a multi-site excavation centered around a chert raw material source location in the interior of California’s southern central coast. The results of the work bring forth new understandings of toolstone acquisition and use in this area that has implications for discussions of regional settlement, social organization, and interactions with outlying areas. Finally, the results of the study will be compared with toolstone acquisition patterns in other areas of California, such as the northern central coast and eastern Sierra Nevada.
Ryan Brady has over 25 years of experience in California archaeology. He received his B.A. from UC Davis and M.A. from Sacramento State University, both in Anthropology. Ryan has been living and working based out of Santa Cruz, California since 2007, and is currently an archaeologist at Dudek.
