Archaeological investigations of the Santa Cruz County coast offer an exceptional opportunity to understand human habitation of the coastline and coast ranges from the Terminal Pleistocene and throughout the Holocene. In this talk, I present the results of a study directed toward a better understanding of ancient and historic fishing practices along the Santa Cruz coast. Through the analysis of several sites that span from the Middle Holocene to the Contact Period, this study investigates long-term human-fish relationships.
